torless – Bruno Ollé

Törless The character Törless from the novel of Robert Musil* is “assaulted by inanimate things, mere objects, and sometimes a hundred quiet eyes that question him”. Objects look back at him, they ask questions. Törless realizes that in between the tangible, the empirical world (in the Kantian tradition) there is a rift,...that incorporeal surplus that we call the psyche/soul, the object as other. The ideas from the recent philosophical school called Triple O (Object-Oriented- Ontology) open up new ways of thinking ours. Relation with the world of objects. Ending the traditional opposition of subject/object, they try to question the relations that are stablished among objects themselves and how those are transformed. How we relate to objects is relevant for our times. The world is emptying itself of things in favor of digital information which is incorporeal and offers no resistance. He who acts (a maker) breaks with the existing state of things and brings unto the world something new. In order to do so he has to overcome a resistance (whether materially or symbolically) and therefore creating a new resistance. A resistance quite alike that of “Odrarek”, that nomadic and animated object that appears in Kafka ́s short story**, the star-shaped object is alive and maintains dialogues with the father of the family. In this show we have tried to create the conditions for an encounter with (and within) objects. * The confusions of young Törless, Robert Musil. 1906 **The Cares of a family Man, Franz Kafka. 1914 Törless El personaje de Törless de la novela de Robert Musil*, es “asaltado por cosas inanimadas, meros objetos, y en ocasiones cien ojos silenciosos e interrogantes”. Las cosas lo miran, lo interrogan. Törless se da cuenta que, entre lo concreto, lo empírico cuantificable (la razón Kantiana) hay una grieta permanente, lo intangible (la psyche, la cosa como otro) Las ideas de la reciente corriente filosófica llamada Triple O (Object-Oriented- Ontology) abren posibilidades para pensar nuestra relación con el mundo de los objetos, al acabar con la oposición sujeto/objeto y por tanto tratar de pensar las relaciones que se establecen entre los propios objetos y las formas en las cuales estos se transforman. Este nuevo paradigma es ahora más relevante que nunca, ya que el mundo actual se vacía de cosas y se llena de información digital, la cual des-materializa y evita cualquier resistencia. Quien actúa (creador), rompe con lo que existe y pone en el mundo algo nuevo, para ello debe vencer una resistencia (material o metafórica) y crea así una nueva resistencia. Quizás la resistencia del revoltoso (y nómada) objeto llamado “Odradek “del relato de Kafka**, que cobra vida y con el cual el padre de familia dialoga.
